WHO WE ARE

The Root & Branch Reading Club is run by Julia Blackburn, a children's author based in UK.

 

WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT

When a parent or carer signs their child up to The Root & Branch Reading Club, or a teacher/librarian registers a class or group, we may collect:

From parents/carers:

• Parent/carer name
• Parent/carer email address
• Child's first name and age (or age range)
• Postal address, if sending physical badges/bookmarks/merchandise by post
• Any feedback submitted about the book, written by the child and/or shared by the parent

From teachers/librarians:

• Name, school/library/organisation name, and work email address

We do not knowingly collect information directly from children without a parent or carer's involvement in the sign-up process.

 

HOW WE USE THIS INFORMATION

We use the information collected to:

• Send the free ebook (or download link) to the parent/carer's email address
• Contact the parent/carer about The Root & Branch Reading Club, including reminders to submit feedback
• Send the Founding Member badge and bookmark to those who submit feedback
• Let parents/carers and teachers know about future books, reader opportunities, and Club updates
• Use anonymised or first-name-only feedback (e.g. "Age 9, Yorkshire") in marketing materials, on the website, or in future book promotion.
• Improve future books and Club activities based on the feedback we receive

We will never sell or rent parent, carer, teacher or child information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

 

HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION

We keep Founding Member and Club information for as long as your child remains an active Club member, or until you ask us to delete it.

 

YOUR RIGHTS

As a parent or carer, you can at any time:

• Ask what information we hold about you or your child
• Ask us to correct inaccurate information
• Ask us to delete your or your child's information from our records
• Withdraw consent and unsubscribe from Club communications at any time (every email will include an unsubscribe link)

CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

The Root & Branch Reading Club is designed for children aged 8–12, but all sign-ups are made by a parent, carer, teacher or other responsible adult on the child's behalf — children do not sign up directly or submit their own contact details. Any feedback submitted by a child is provided via their parent/carer or teacher.

We take extra care with any information connected to children and will only use it in the ways described in this policy.
